The word "potato" is a loanword from the Castilian. Turn the Castilian word is another loan from the Quechua language, the word Pope and the same meaning. The junction of the word potato (sweet potato), originating word of the island of Hispaniola, and Pope turned "potato". Initially the conquistadors used the term kick, due to the similarity of forms, both the pope and sweet potatoes. From the Castilian term is exported to other languages, due mainly to the tuber it is met by importing this from Castilian lands.
